A Sacred Journey Through Africa

Our hearts are still tender from our month in Uganda and Cape Town—a time filled with beauty, love, and holy moments that words seem far too small.

This wasn’t just a journey. It was a deep unfolding of God’s presence. Each day brought encounters that gently broke us open and knit us closer to His heart. We saw Scripture not as words on a page, but as breath in motion, alive in the people we met and the sacred ground we walked on.

“The kingdom of God is near.”

We felt it in the warm embraces of strangers who quickly became family. In the sparkling eyes of men whose laughter sings of resilience. In the strength of women who carry untold burdens with grace. In quiet prayers whispered in confidence.

This journey has changed us—not just in what we remember, but in how we now love, listen, and live. It lives within us, shaping our hands to serve and our hearts to hope with more profound compassion. Africa welcomed us with open arms, and we will never be the same.

We thank you for being a part of our adventure with God and impacting so many hearts all over the continent of Africa. We couldn’t have done it without your prayers and support!

Trauma Healing in Uganda: A Call to Peace and Restoration

In Uganda’s vibrant yet scarred communities, where civil unrest, disease, and poverty have left deep emotional wounds, the need for trauma healing is profound. Inspired by Luke 10:1-9, where Jesus sends seventy-two disciples to proclaim peace and heal, we trained 27 local leaders—Hands of Love staff, community pastors, counselors, and parents—to become beacons of hope. This sacred mission mirrors Jesus’ call, empowering Ugandans to heal their own hearts and foster restoration in others.

Trauma lingers from violence, HIV/AIDS, and loss, yet Uganda’s resilience shines. Our training, rooted in scripture and mental health practices, equips facilitators to create safe spaces for sharing pain. A widower finds his voice through Lamentations 3:19-23; a young woman in Kampala discovers freedom in Psalm 147:3. Using the "Healing the Wounds of Trauma" curriculum, we blend storytelling and group discussions, resonating with Uganda’s oral traditions.

Sent in pairs, these facilitators embody communal strength, relying on God’s provision to declare shalom. This work is a testimony to God’s kingdom breaking into broken lives, transforming communities. Our journey has bound us to these precious souls, creating a ripple effect of hope.

A War Zone of Faith: A Woman's Mission Field

A global worker steps into a tough place, her heart a battlefield where faith fights doubt. Dust and differences make things hard, and loneliness follows her. But with prayer and kindness, she brings Hope to people in need. Her mission is to share God’s love in a world full of struggles.

Doubt, fear, and tiredness hit when she’s weak or feels far from God. Ephesians 6:12 says her fight is spiritual, not against people. She cries alone, praying for strength, but keeps going. At a Thrive retreat, she finds rest, friendship, and connection with women who understand her life.

Women at the retreat feel loved and seen. They’re used to helping others, so being cared for by Thrive volunteers feels special. Global workers often say goodbye, holding back to avoid pain. But at Thrive, they quickly bond, feeling safe to share their challenges, like crying over a gift of chocolate. They find others who “get it.” Their stories become ours, and we carry them forward, inspired by their courage and faith that shines in tough times, changing lives with love.
